Hey guys!
I just wanted to post some beginner tips for those of you embarking on your violin journey!
Tip 1: Watch your bow hold. The last thing you want is to develop a bad bow hold. If you have a teacher make sure your holding the bow the exact way they showed you. If you don't have a teacher I recommend looking up TheOnlinePianoandViolin teacher for a good bow hold. You can of course post your bow hold in the Newbie Corner and ask if it's correct.
Tip 2: Really listen for your intonation. What I mean by this is not just putting your finger over a tape (if you have tapes) and memorizing the position. I mean internalize the sound of the note. If you do this it'll be easier to play by ear.
Tip 3: Watch your left hand! Make sure you're not holding your violin with your palm. If you have a teacher make sure you're holding the way they show you. If you don't have a teacher look up the Youtube channel I mentioned in Tip 1.
That's all I can think of now. I hope I helped you in some way shape or form.
Thanks for reading

What do you mean by "internalize the sound" I've just started playing and all I've been able to produce is scratchy squeaks. :/

When I say internalize the sound, I mean listen to everything about the sound. A D natural on the A string will cause the D string to vibrate which is called Sympathetic Vibrations. Now if you listen to that, feel both strings vibrating, and try and memorize the feeling and sound. You'll be able to use those feelings to better your intonation and it'll help your ear.
